Caring For Orthodontic Appliances and Retainers

CARING FOR MY ACRYLIC ORTHODONTIC APPLIANCE or RETAINER

When a patient wears an Orthodontic Appliance or Retainer, they are more susceptible to cavities and Periodontal gum disease. That is why it is very important to BRUSH AND FLOSS your teeth.

Regular use of a mouth rinse that contains fluoride is recommended.

Clean the Orthodontic Appliance/Retainer thoroughly Once a Day with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Use warm, but not hot, water.

Brushing retainers removes the plaque, and eliminates odors. Polident® or other Orthodontic Appliance cleaners can be used in addition to brushing.

Disinfect the Orthodontic Appliance/Retainer by soaking it in an antibacterial mouth rinse for half an hour 2-3 times a week.
